Worth the Click+ Books, Of Course 📚

Quinta Brunson as Betty Boop, the Indie films to see this summer, stop hot-washing adaptations, a hilarious show’s return date, and many more things to know! (May 22nd edition)

It’s time for another round of things on my recent radar that I think are worth sharing. It’s a short-ish list this time but there’s plenty of interesting stuff to check out—and of course the books I’ve downloaded this week that I’m super excited about.

This is one of the funniest shows and I can’t wait for its third season (July 2nd): ‘Survival of the Thickest’ Season 3 Sets Premiere Date At Netflix With First-Look Photos & Teaser Trailer

Let girlboss feminism die, please

“Nobody wants a parasocial bestie who shills for the plutocrats who are nullifying their votes, degrading their educations, jacking up their power bills, stealing their wages and rigging the system. There is no feminist case for scaring people into adopting A.I. Why would anyone even try?” Tressie McMillan Cottom at NYT, The Revolt Against the Girl Bosses Has Finally Come (archived link: https://archive.ph/FAfgQ#selection-533.0-533.51)

Things are looking weird lately, and not good weird

I’d love a deeper dive across Hollywood since this goes beyond adaptations, but it’s something I keep hearing people talking about without having specific terminology. Related: I’m finding it incredibly difficult to stay engaged with a show/film when an actor has done up their face to no longer have any way of emoting emotion so they feel completely removed from the words coming out of their mouths. Art exhibit to see in Washington, DC

“A major exhibition at the National Museum of African Art is up and running in all its vibrancy: “Here: Pride and Belonging in African Art features 60 works of LGBTQ+ Artists from Africa and its diaspora from more than a dozen countries. The show includes paintings, sculptures, textiles, photography, film and video. Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa feature prominently along with diaspora artists in the United States, England and France.” Smithsonian’s First Major Exhibit Of African LGBTQ+ Art On Display Through August
